Mystery Lovers Review:
Nancy Means Wright takes some historical facts about Mary Wollstonecroft and mixes in some clever suppositions to fill in the blank pages in this charming historical mystery. An impoverished Mary is on her way to Ireland to take up duties as a governess at the opening of the novel. She finds herself in a rather gloomy castle presided over by the Anglo-Irish gentry who see their English governess as only a short step above the Irish that they exploit and abuse. Through a chance meeting on the boat coming over Mary becomes involved in some dangerous political conspiracies that lead to murder once she takes up her duties. A captivating evocation of a time and place that will be equally interesting and unfamiliar to most readers.
