Description:
Ann Littlewood’s first mystery, fascinated me from the beginning. I was truly captivated by her portrayal of Iris Oakley, a zookeeper in Washington State. Iris has domestic problems with Rick, her estranged alcoholic husband who has gone on the wagon. Alas, though, these problems escalate exponentially when Rick’s body is discovered in the zoo’s lion exhibit. Despite Rick’s numerous shortcomings, Iris can’t believe that his death is accidental—and she’s correct. Unfortunately, her investigation unleashes a chain of near-deadly “accidents” that threaten her own life, as well. Luckily, though, Iris’ persistence, insight and intelligence lead her to the solution of this mystery. Night Kill is the promising debut of a superb new series, especially enjoyable if you are an animal-lover like I am. Littlewood’s depiction of zoology alone is worth the price of admission and much more. [LM]
