New British books

We've received even more New British imports this week. Here's a sample:

Peter Corris's Open File is the latest for Australian PI Cliff Hardy. Quintin Jardine has a new Bob Skinner in paperback: Head Shot and there's a new Regency mystery series by Rebecca Jenkins that begins with The Duke's Agent.

And here are last week's British imports:

First up is The Missing,a debut by Jane Casey. A teenage girl has gone missing and it is her teacher, Sarah Fletcher, who finds her body in woods. Police suspicion is aroused because 16 years ealier Sarah's brother went missing and they believe she had a role in both cases. Casey followed up The Missing with The Burning which introduced the character of Detective Constable Maeve Kerrigan who is on the trail of a serial killer.

Next, veteran Stephen Booth has a new book for DS Ben Cooper and DI Diane Fry who face off against a home invasion squad who are wreaking havoc in the district in The Devil's Edge.

Lastly, Mercy is the debut book in English by Jussi Adler-Olson and it introuduces Danish detective Carl Mork. Mork has just returned from duty after a shooting that left one colleague dead and another paralyzed. Needless to say, is attitutude towards his work is not positive. Through a series of political maneuvers he ends up the head (and sole detective) of a department for cold cases. The case he takes on is the disappearance of a prominent member of parliament who disappeared from a ferry crossing to Germany. A wonderful character, plenty of wry humor, terrific suspense--all the elements for a great read.

Also in a Scandinavian vein, The Killer's Art is Mari Jungstedts fourth book with Sweden's Inspector Anders Knutas.
