A violin recital at a bookstore? Why not.

On Tuesday, August 31 at 7 pm we'll have a unique event at MLB, an author talk, signing and violin recital with Gerald Elias. Mr. Elias is the assistant concertmaster at the Utah Symphony Orchestra and he's visiting us with the second of his mysteries featuring violinist Daniel Jacobus. Danse Macabre is the title and Danse Macabre is the musical selection when Mr. Elias appears at the store. The first of his mysteries, Devil's Trill, is here in paperback.

New Arrivals

I know I told you last week that we had a bunch of New British titles last week but we've actually got another great batch of new items this week as well.

One note about last week's titles: a sharp-eyed and knowledgeable customer pointed out that Broken Souls by Jack Kerley which I advertised as a new novel, 4th in the series with detective Carson Rider, is actually a re-titled version of A Garden of Vipers. It turns out, however, that Kerley has gone on to write four more books in the series all of which are availble in England and all which we'll have in the store in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, among the books we do have here now are:

We have a brand-new title by Sophie Hannah, A Room Swept White

Fans of the historical mysteries of R.N. Morris, set in Czarist Russia will be glad to see a third, A Razor Wrapped in Silk.

If you're seeking a Golden Age setting with a pair of unforgettable characters then you must check out Simon Brett's new series with Blotto, Twinks and the Ex-King's Daughter. Blotto is the handsome and brave but somewhat stupid son of a dowager duchess while Twinks is his much brighter sibling. The pair must save the daughter of the title who is, naturally, much in distress.

For those who prefer a contemporary police series with a London setting, we've got the first two books in a series by Adam Creed that feature DI Will Wagstaffe, known as Staffe to his friends (and enemies). Check out Suffer the Children for the first.

If your tastes run more to the village mystery then Lesley Cookman's Murder in the Green will delight with this sixth outing for Steeple Martin's resident sleuth Libby Serjeant.

US books were not without some interesting New Arrivals this week Here are some highlights:

Peter Robinson's latest for Inspector Alan Banks is Bad Boy.

Michael Koryta's The Silent Hour is a fourth for Cleveland PI Lincoln Perry.

Meg Lanslow is back in Swan for the Money by Donna Andrews.

David Baldacci's True Blue is here in paperback.

New books arrive every day. Check our New Arrivals page often for everything new at MLB.
