Yes, it's really been 19 wonderful years here at MLB. We'll be making this halloween special, though, with appearances by two authors during the course of the day.

Naturally, we'll also celebrate in the usual way with free cappuccino, starting at 10 am. At 1 pm we'll welcome Tim Regan with his new book of local history, The Names of Pittsburgh. At 7 pm celebrity reporter Alan Petrucelli will join us for a talk and signing of Morbid Curiositywe'll begin our Halloween Author Fest followed by the ten cent booksale at 9 pm.

1 pm Bob Regan

Bob Regan is well known to MLB audiences through his two earlier books of Pittsburgh history: The Steps of Pittsburgh and The Bridges of Pittsburgh. He'll join us with his latest: Names of Pittsburgh. Subtitled How the City, Neighborhood, Streets, Parks and More Got Their Names, this is a fascinating compendium of Pittsburgh lore seen through the names we give various places. Magee Hospital, Schenley Park, Oliver Street; they all tell a story and Bob is just the one to tell it. With 100 photos, maps and illustrations including 10 maps for exploring the Names of Pittsburgh on your own, this book will make a terrific holiday gift for any current or former Pittsburgher.

7 pm Alan W. Petrucelli

Entertainment reporter and Post-Gazette columnist Alan W. Petrucelli will join us at 7 pm with his delicious new book, perfect for Halloween, Morbid Curiosity: The The Distrubing Demises of the Famous and Infamous. From historical figures like Attila the Hun and Sir Walter Raleigh to contemporary names like River Phoenix and Anna Nicole Smith, the deaths of the rich and famous provoke endless speculation and tabloid fodder. Anyone can recall where they were when Princess Diana died, even if they are unable to remember who was president at the time. Noted celebrity journalist Alan W. Petrucelli has covered some of the world’s most famous people— some right until their deaths. In Morbid Curiosity, he presents the most disturbing, unexpected, occasionally humorous, and often outright appalling details of the final exits of the rich and powerful.

As a special treat you may come dressed as your favorite dead celebrity and we'll award prizes in various categories.

9 pm Ten Cent Book Sale

The 10 cent book sale, benefitting Beginning with Books, begins at 9 pm. We'll be selling off all the advanced reading copies we've accumulated over the past year with all proceeds going to Beginning with Books, a Pittsburgh-based literacy program.
